An Icon Reignited | YSL Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick Review
So many brands have been launching full color, high-pigment lipsticks lately; touting new technology, new formulas or never-before-seen shades. However; for almost 40 years, Yves Saint Laurent Beauty has cornered the market for luxurious, creamy, intensely rich lip color in their Rouge Pur Couture line. Let’s check out why these lippies are the bees knees in my YSL Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick Review…
Packaged in nothing less than regal metallic gold with a noted weight to it, YSL Rouge Pur Couture comes in a staggering 35+ shades (depending where purchased). I feel like YSL is an unsung hero in the pigmented lipstick game and one you need to know about.
I currently own two shades – #09 Rose Stiletto and #19 Fuchsia. Rose Stiletto is a deeper mauve rose with a neutral undertone, while Fuchsia is a darker hot pink with purple undertones. Application is insanely smooth with a significant hydrating feel. The lipsticks have the iconic light fruit punch scent (if you have tried any YSL lip products, you know what I’m talking about. It’s very faint, in my opinion, and I’m extremely sensitive to smell/taste). YSL claims the product not only is deeply hydrating, but also includes antioxidants to treat the lips. Color is vividly intense with one swipe – I was shocked how vibrant the pigment was while maintaining such crazy moisture and sheen on the lips!
Typically with hydrating lip products, the wear time can be less than their drier counterparts. This is not the case with Rouge Pur Couture. I recently attended an event wearing one of the shades and had minimal wear visible after eating light snacks and drinks over a five and a half hour period. These lipsticks are full color, full time. In a word: impressed.
Top: YSL Rouge Pur Couture #19 Fuchsia with a plum lip liner (sunny day)
Bottom: YSL Rouge Pur Couture #09 Rose Stiletto (cloudy day)
If you are a lipstick lover, please do yourself a favor and pick up one or two of these shades ASAP. If you’re on the fence about dropping that kind of cash ($36) on a lipstick, put it on your holiday wish list. They are completely worth the money and the amount of compliments I receive when wearing either shade is crazy – one complimenter even thought I had lip injections (I have not, lol)!
Which of the 35+ shades are catching your eye? Comment below! I am thinking of picking up #06 Rouge Bergamasque (nude pink). I swatched it in Sephora yesterday in person and it’s a perfect soft nude peach!
