There’s just something about December and the holidays that makes me justify purchasing too many presents for
myself everyone. This month, I have some serious love for my December 2014 makeup favorites and I hope you check them out and enjoy, as well.
(Clockwise, L to R: MAC Stripdown Lip Pencil // TooFaced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer // MUA Lipstick in #220 Flesh // Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Luminous Light // Diorshow Iconic Overcurl Mascara Waterproof)
A staple in many nude lip lover’s arsenal, I guess I’m a bit late to the game. As someone with fairly pigmented lips naturally I tend to stay away from lip pencils. But I’m starting to become a convert. Thanks to the Kylie Jenner lip fad however, the pigmentation of my lips works in my favor. But this lip pencil just mutes my lip color enough to allow my nude lipsticks to truly pop (and last longer). My favorite reason for loving this pencil: it allows me to rock those super pale nude lipsticks without looking like a corpse. Yay!
This is a rediscovery for me. I had a pan of this product a couple of years ago, but as every makeup-obsessed fiend does from time to time, I strayed. I strayed to warmer bronzers and although that’s great in the summertime, I was starting to feel a bit Snooki. This bronzer is the perfect combination of brown and gold to create just enough dimension for the fall/winter… and I’m sure through the spring. It’s also so smooth and blendable, which is great for the Jersey Girl in me who can sometimes be a little heavy-handed with the bronzer. -__-
THIS IS A WINNER, FOLKS! I just recently purchased MAC’s Patisserie lipstick and I’m on the fence about it. So on a casual trip to CVS (meant to get tissues and eye drops… left with lippies), I spotted this MUA display and decided to explore, since I’ve read good things about their lip products. I took a chance on this shade based on the color of the cap. It looks a bit darker in the picture than it does in real life, but this lipstick is what I hoped for MAC’s Patisserie! Don’t get me wrong, I don’t dislike Patisserie, in fact, I think it’s more that the Lustre finish isn’t my fave. But if Patisserie was a Cremesheen finish, it would be MUA’s Flesh. It’s super creamy, vanilla-scented (like MAC) and extremely moisturizing. I feel like I’m using a really good lip balm/butter when wearing this $8 lipstick. The wear-time is a bit short due to the moisture, but it’s so comfy to reapply that I don’t mind at all! Looks great with MAC’s Stripdown pencil, too.
I had a love/hate relationship with these Hourglass powders last year around Christmastime. I purchased Dim Light thinking it would make me look highly romantical 24/7. It made me look like I had bad rosacea/super pink/muddy. The texture of these powders is exquisite. It literally feels like you are running your fingers over silk. Love. However, it’s super important you find your perfect shade or you’ll hate it. Needless to say, I returned Dim Light and fawned over what other shade could work for me. As I approach the big 3-0 birthday and my crazy oily skin has calmed down dramatically, I’ve come to appreciate the benefits of a healthy glow. Luminous Light helps achieve a healthy glow during working/daytime hours without being the kind of highlight I’d prefer for evenings. It softens my makeup as a finishing powder and adds just a tinge of sheen so I don’t look like a chalkboard all day. I’m really happy with this product now that I have the right shade.
Ok, I am 98.5% of the time a drugstore mascara girl. Mascara is one of those things I won’t usually splurge on because you go through it in three months (or should be throwing it out around then) and it’s on my lashes. Whatev. Those babies fall out every few weeks anyways. BUT. I got a sample of this mascara in its regular version last month and could not believe my eyeballs. The night I used it for the first time, I had to go up to the hubs and say, “LOOK AT MY LASHES AREN’T THEY CRAZY AWESOME WITH THIS $30 MASCARA?!” …He actually had to agree they looked amazing. Thick, voluminous, full, super lengthened and curled… basically like falsies. But soft, too! I wasn’t a huge fan of regular Diorshow mascara, but this Iconic Overcurl version is fab. Totes worth the splurge. Thank me later.
