It’s officially summer everywhere in the U.S. and here in Texas, it’s HOT. With these ridiculous temperatures and scorching sunshine, my beauty routine has to adapt. I need lighter yet longer lasting foundation, more and more waterproof eye makeup and products that embrace my hair’s natural wavy texture while also keeping sweat and greasies at bay.
This horrifying revelation came to me earlier this week when I followed Bobbi Brown’s 5-10 minute makeup routine from her Bobbi Brown Makeup Manual and it instructed me to apply eyeshadow without my usual eye primer. “Hm, ok,” I thought, “this will not end well.” I have used an eye primer under eye shadow since 2007 when a Sephora makeup artist introduced me to TooFaced Shadow Insurance. My life was forever changed.
If you don’t bother with eye makeup because it evaporates into thin air within a few hours, this post is for you.
If you don’t understand why $50+ eyeshadow palettes don’t seem to show up on your face like they do on your hand in the store, this post is for you.
If you think all drugstore eye makeup is garbage because it doesn’t show up at all, this post is for you.
If you feel like your eye makeup is always smudging – especially in the summer – this post is for you.
If you already love eye primer and want to know my favorites, this post is for you, too. 😉
June 2015 makeup favorites reminded me why I love shopping for cosmetics so much. It took me back to a time before Google, YouTube and online reviews. A time where I would go to the drugstore with my mom, we would simply pick out products based on the packaging claims; bring them home hoping to find a diamond in the rough.
Wedding season is in full swing and it definitely takes me back a year ago when I was prepping for my own big day. I had a two-year engagement and used that time testing out products to find the best of the best so I could do it myself. This may not be for everyone, but doing my makeup relaxes me. Here’s all of my tips and products used for my long lasting DIY wedding makeup tutorial that lasted from 7 a.m.-1 a.m. …
I returned from
Jurassic Park (Maui) a couple of weeks ago after taking a week-long trip with the husband for our Maui honeymoon slash one year anniversary ((the week after our wedding, we moved from North Carolina to Texas, so a honeymoon just wasn’t going to happen)). We left the trip looking into buying property and saving the sea turtles from tourists who thought lifting a sea turtle out of the ocean for a selfie was appropriate. Not kidding.
I fully intend on doing my next post about my top beauty items during this trip, but keep reading if you want a recap on why we chose Maui, where we went, what we did, where we ate, what I recommend packing – and what I still have on my to-do list when we return (aloha)!
Hellloooo there! Nothing helps define your ‘must haves’ like packing to move. I consider myself a pretty experienced slash professional mover at this point (eight moves in the last 12 years), so when it’s time to narrow down a small stash of products to have easy access to while everything else gets packed up, it sort of defines ‘favorites’ on its own. Let’s check out my April 2015 makeup favorites…
As much as I love my neutral, slightly surfer/bohemian casual style, there’s just something about the cuts and fun prints of Lilly Pulitzer that sometimes really catch me by surprise. Although I don’t think I could ever rock one of her brightest pieces, the recent collaboration with Target stirred up quite a frenzy. I actually only slept for one hour on Saturday night – spending all evening on Target.com and their mobile app scouring to “check out” multiple times to no avail. I ended up at the Golden Gates of Target at 7:45am Sunday morning, and managed to escape with two out of the six things I really wanted – along with a couple items that happened to call my name which will be perfect additions to my Hawaii Honeymoon in three weeks. More about my Lilly Pulitzer for Target experience after the jump!
Sephora has two major sales throughout the year – one around November, where VIBs get 20% off their entire purchase(s) for about 3-4 days and again in April, where VIBs get 15% off for about 3-4 days. If you’re a VIB Rouge, the sale has already started for you, and you get 15% off your purchases in store or online through 4/21. If you’re just a regular Beauty Insider, you’ll get 10% off from 4/17-4/20.
This year’s VIB sale starts today (!!!), 4/16 through 4/21. My cart has been stocked, restocked and it’s ready to pull the trigger as soon as the clock strikes 12. Let’s discuss my Sephora April VIB Sale wish list and recommendations that won’t disappoint…
About a week ago, I was fortunate enough to be invited to meet with the goddess herself, Charlotte Tilbury, along with an intimate group of wonderful press and fellow bloggers in Houston. This event was akin to meeting Santa for the first time and waking up on Christmas morning to makeup, sparkles and happiness everywhere.
We had the opportunity to play with Charlotte’s entire collection, as well as, some items yet to be launched in the United States. Naturally, I left with quite a bit of items to play with and test over the past few days (more to come on that). For now, I wanted to share with you some of the tidbits I learned from Charlotte about her products, brand, and passion for beauty. More meeting Charlotte Tilbury after the jump!
“I wanted to change women’s lives.”
Charlotte Tilbury on why she started a makeup line
Spring has officially arrived! I don’t know about the rest of you, but as a New Jersey girl experiencing her first full spring/summer in Houston, Texas, it certainly crept up on me real fast and I am NOT ready for it. However, a pretty pop of color on the lips really helps to get me prepped for shorts and flip flops. A little extra cardio doesn’t hurt, either. Here’s my current top summer lipsticks for the season…
