Since you should all be DIY-ing your manicures at home like pros by now, it makes it a lot easier to change your polish more frequently. Whether you stick to softer hues or bold shades, I have 8 summer polishes to try straight from the trendsetters in the fashion/beauty world, along with some trends to watch for!
In this week’s best YouTube makeup videos, the Huda Beauty brand just recently launched new lip contour products (yes… now we’re contouring our lips, people). Really, they’re more like lip liners with excellent longevity, but regardless… we’re taking a look at those PLUS, it’s prom/wedding season and I came across an age-appropriate yet gorgeous makeup tutorial for high schoolers, wedding guests and/or brides alike!
I received the products marked with an asterisk (*) complimentary for testing purposes from Influenster – a free-to-join site that occasionally sends their members products to test and provide feedback. All opinions are my own. Full disclaimer here. #myessence #SKII
If you’ve been following my blog for a while now or we’re friends IRL, you may have picked up that I have high-maintenance, sensitive skin. I’m always researching ingredients that can help remedy my biggest issues, which are mainly dehydration, breakouts, texture and uneven skin tone. When I found out I was one of the lucky ones to get the SK II box from Influenster, I was ecstatic because I’ve read SO many incredible things about their Facial Treatment Essence ($99-290)* and Facial Treatment Mask (1/$17, 10/$135),* both of which came in the box. It’s been a full month of use, so I’m ready to give my official SK II Facial Treatment Essence review to let you know if these products are worth your hard-earned cash money.
It is no secret I am a huge fan of the ColourPop brand. Available only online at colourpop.com, the super-affordable line (nothing has yet to be over $10… from lipstick to blush, eyeshadow to brow pencil) uses a business model similar to clothing store, Zara, in that products come to market quickly and in the trendiest of formulas/colors. The quality may not be akin to what you’d find at your local Neiman Marcus, but that’s not the target market for ColourPop and they’re totally ok with that – and you should be, too, because only ONE of their products has yet to disappoint me. Their Ultra Matte Lip (a liquid lipstick) was a giant fail for me because the formula was insanely dry and flaky no matter what I did. I preferred their matte formula of the Lippie Stix (standard wax/cream-based tubes) until they released their Ultra Satin Lip ($6/ea). I literally am dying over these. If uber-matte formulas have yet to look good on you or you just don’t want to drop $20+ on one, allow me to provide my ColourPop Ultra Satin Lip review…
I picked up four different shades, so I’ll get into all the details and swatches after the jump!
Spring cleaning time! I’ll be doing some administrative (read: boring back-end website clean up) tasks to ensure Brighter, Darling is running at her best this week, but will return Monday, May 16 with our regularly scheduled beauty tips.
In the meantime, I’d LOVE to hear from you! I’m sharing a quick 5-question reader beauty poll (below) where I want YOU to tell ME what your favorite tips/tricks are, your top-performing products and things you’re lusting after. Later in the month, I’ll be sharing a round-up of the most unique/helpful answers (bonus points if you have a blog your YouTube channel… I’ll be linking submitted entries). Click ‘continue reading’ below to access the poll and thanks for your patience!
New new new! Lots of new makeup information in the week’s videos. From best highlighters to new beauty launches and details on several of the new Ulta-brand makeup line, these three videos will have you knowing which products to skip and which to give a second look…
Let’s get into a little marketing chat, shall we? …As much as I adore makeup, my educational and professional background does include NINE (yes, I’m getting wiser) years of pro communication/marketing experience, so I do enjoy the biz side almost as much as the creative side of the beauty industry… By now, we all are aware what age range categorizes ‘millenials’ and as the older half of us mature, there’s a new generation that’s starting to call the shots. I knowww, just when you were getting accustomed to millenials being all the rage at work… enter: Generation Z (born 1995-2010).
With their pulse on technology, they’re completely changing the way brands interact in the marketplace and we’ve definitely started seeing this in a huge way in the beauty world. Let’s check out some of the trends you may find this spring/summer 2016 and beyond…
Blush is one of those classic products that every woman – no matter how into makeup she is (or isn’t) – should own. I’d say blush can give mascara a run for its money when it comes to the quick impact it can make on your overall appearance in the shortest amount of time. A few swipes of mascara and a dusting of the perfect blush shade can pretty much make you look wide awake, healthy and polished in about two minutes. Here’s my 8 best blushes for different skin tones…
To say this week has been extremely busy and exhausting would be an understatement. Lots of great opportunities are coming for Brighter, Darling and I’m really happy about it – so thank you all for your support in reading and sharing my posts! But for some reason, every day has been like a 3-cup-of-coffee a day sorta situation (I can usually get by with just a cup of tea). When I’m extra dead, I like to just sloth on the sofa at night catching up on some YouTube.
I got some good laughs out of a couple of girls testing out this “Instant Face Lift” product and learned about some great (and not so great) products from a couple of other favorite YouTube ladies.

It’s that time of the month when beauty bloggers and vloggers everywhere are sharing their monthly beauty favorites. By now, many of my readers know I only do these when I truly have around five products I have been loving. Considering I bought like a million new beauty products recently, it was about time I curated some favorites to share.
